Quality, affordable...

Brian at Form Labs

Form Labs offers a wide variety of creative and technical services related to music, sound, and professional audio - mastering is our focus.

About the engineer:
Brian Jackson started mastering music in 1998. He is also an internationally released electronic musician with 14 years of music production experience, and teaches audio engineering (including mastering) at SAE Institute in NYC.

What is Mastering?

Don't believe the hype - There is no such thing as a "Mastering Plug-in".

According to The Audio Mastering Handbook (Bobby Owsinski, 2008, Thomson Course Technology) :

"Mastering is not a set of tools or a device that music is run through and automatically comes out mastered (despite what the adverts for these types of so-called "mastering devices" say). It's an art form that, when done conscientously in its highest form, mostly relies on an individual's skill, experience with various genres of music, and good taste."

About my services:

I offer high quality mastering at very affordable rates. I have over 10 years of experience mastering music, a good sounding room, a broad knowledge of music, and most importantly, great ears. I have digital and analog options, and high-end reference monitors.

I am known for my honesty and straight forward approach with my clients. I will not make any claims that I cannot backup. If I do no think I can deliver what you need, I will tell you.

Rates:

Note: For a precise quote I will need to talk to you and hear some of the material.

Unattended / eMastering (via web) = $20 - $50/ song
Attended Session = $40+/ hour

Tip: Never bounce or render your final mix with a limiter or compressor on the master bus, unless: 1) You know how to properly apply mix buss compression techniques or 2) you are using a brick wall limiter for no other purpose that to catch overs - i.e., it is not maximizing gain. Don't try to make your mix Loud, just make it Good. Remember, the mastering engineer maximizes loudness, you just want to deliver a clean mix.
